• British Rail is opening new freight handling depot in Wolverhampton, called a Railpark, which will provide warehousing and distribution facilities to compete with road hauliers.
BR says the Rai!park will offer a complete goods handling service which will "help to take freight away from the roads".
The Rai!park will be operated by Rai!store, a BR associate, which operates a warehouse and distribution complex in Gidea Park, East London.
Railstore managing director Gerry Reynolds will manage the Rai!park, and says that he will start a second in the Manchester/Liverpool area if this Railpark proves successful.
He expects 30 new jobs to be created at the Rai!park, where companies will be able to share warehousing facilities on a 3.44-hectare site (8.5 acres). All companies will have to make use of the public warehouse.
