• Alternative Chassis Engineering (ACE) of Huddersfield is entering the fire appliance market.
The specialist coach and bus chassis manufacturer has already had discussions with brigade engineers and has produced a design for an airsuspended water tender chassis fitted with a front-mounted Perkins V8 engine.
The first example of the low centre of gravity chassis should be revealed this year.
The design has Home Office approval and will be fitted with a proprietary cab.
ACE director Keith Ward told CM: "We are aiming for the same share of the market as Dennis."
