Among the German ianufacturers the IVECO;sociated fire service division
Magirus-Deutz — looking 3ck on a tradition of 115 years will show a complete proramme of appliances and other ehicles for fire brigade and iscue service use. As the larg;t fire-fighting vehicle builders
Europe — (approx. 600 units re produced each year) — the Decialist division of Magiruseutz exports 80 per cent of all ppliances over six tonnes; Im-built equipment is used in most every part of the world nd recent trends have, in'eased the demand by deveiping countries for highly vhisticated equipment to proict newly-developed industrial lants, oilfields and refinery inallations.
At Hanover Magirus-Deutz ill demonstrate the pre
production version of a new low-profile turntable ladder which is one of the first results to emerge, in this specialist sector, from the joint IVECO design centre. Able to negotiate access to factories, enclosed yards and other locations where headroom may be severely restricted the new Magirus-Duetz DL 30 Nb appliance has an overall height of only 2.85 m (9 ft. 41/2 in.), a reduction of over 40 cm from the previous standard height of Magirus Deutz turntable ladders.
Main features are the engine location behind the easy access .cab and an extremely low centre of gravity for excellent dynamic handling characteristics. Engine options include 141 kW and 188 kW air cooled diesels while automatic transmission is a standard feature. Another innovation is the provision of an automatic levelling device to compensate for uneven ground which allows the turntable ladder base to remain in a horizontal plane at all times.
Ten fire engines of this new design have already been ordered by the city of Munich whose present 200-strong fleet of appliances and emergency vehicles (third largest in Germany) already includes a major proportion of Magirus-Deutz built units.
