THE South Wales LA, Mr Ronald R. Jackson, is to give his decision in writing on a "show cause" appearance by Vernon Blair Walker Ltd, of Newbridge, last week.

One of the company's vehicles was issued with a GV9 in October 1973; the subsequent hearing was adjourned for evidence on whether the lorry was loaded. The second hearing was also adjourned -for more evidence on this subject. At last week's hearing Mr Garry Walker Jnr said that on October 8 1973 he had driven the lorry to a garage which was to take off what could be salvaged before the vehicle was scrapped. "There were only empty sacks and the scales on the lorry; definitely no coal," he said.

Mr Walker admitted that he had asked the foreman to look at the brakes because they were "spongy" but said he had no intention of using the vehicle again.
