THE DISTRIBUTION of freight by road is accepted by Transport 2000 — but it welcomes the Government's decision to restrict heavy goods vehicles to designated routes. These views are expressed in an open letter to the new Government contained in the Association's spring newsletter. Transport 2000 urges that distribution centres outside town centres should be provided where there would be an interchange between two or more modes of transport.
The Association also points out that 40 per cent of all car occupant deaths are due to collision with a lorry.
