IN AN effort to encourage manufacturing companies to send more goods by rail Transport Minister, Mr Fred Mulley, has written to about 100 of the 'country's largest firms asking them to take part in discussions with the British Railways Board to see how much of their goods traffic could be transferred from road to rail.
The discussions, which were first suggested by the FTA, will aim to see what action the Government or British Rail can take to attract more suitable freight onto the railway.
Among the companies who have received letters from Mr Mulley are British Leyland, Vauxhall, Ford and Chrysler.
