A FTER 41 years of public service the r't Silver Star Motor Services Ltd., of Porton Down, Salisbury, Wilts, is to cease operating. An agreement has been reached between Silver Star and the Wilts and Dorset Motor Services Ltd., under which Wilts and Dorset will purchase the goodwill and assets of Silver Star.

The Silver Star company was formed by the late Mr. E. W. Shergoid, of Hulse Road, and Mr. B. F. White, of Allington. At first there was a single Ford bus operating between Salisbury and Porton. Today, despite opposition, a fleet of 23 coaches and double-decker buses are operated by. a curtailed staff of 25. • Wilts and Dorset has applied for the necessary road-service licences and, if granted, the stage-carriage service at present operated by Silver Star between Salisbury and Allington and Porton, together with express services between Bemerton Heath and Porton, will be operated by Wilts and Dorset from June 5 in accordance with the existing timetables.

Wilts and Dorset will also take over operation of the various excursions and tours and camp express facilities, until now provided by the Silver Star, and will honour all private hire agreements already made with Silver Star by other concerns.
