r-k A SMALL mobile shovel for oper
ation in confined spaces and having a lifting capacity of 10 cwt., is now being produced by F. E. Weatherill, Ltd., Tewin Road, Welwyn Garden City, Herts. • Only 4 ft, 6 in. wide, the S.1. Weatherill industrial loader, as it is called, has a wheelbase of 4 ft. 9 in. and Can be operated under a ceiling as low as 6 ft. 3 in. A good forward reach is provided, together with a discharge height which is adequate to load tippers and other trucks of the usual type. Another feature is its manceuvrability.
A 'range of scoops is available to accommodate materials such as sugar, salt, phosphate and other fertilizers, china-clay, foundry sand, swarf, coal and coke, oxide, glass, pitch, bones and so on.
Powered by a Perkins P3 oil engine, the machine has roar-wheel steering and weighs 2 tons 2 cwt. A vane-type pump supplies the hydraulic equipment. Only the driving wheels are braked, using 10-in. by 11-in. hydraulic units.
Optional equipment includes a crane attachment, a fork lift, towing hitch and lighting.
New Flexible Connectors
ARANGE of flexible connectors has been introduced by Precision Heating, Ltd., 142a Canhury Park Road, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey. They are suitable for use with water, oil, petrol and other liquids, and as anti-vibration joints on vehicle exhaust systems.
High-frequency induction brazing is used on the connectors, which consist of seamless -bronze or stainless-steel flexible bellows brazed to flanged or screwed-end fittings to suit any particular application.
New Elevator Truck
A HAND-OPERATED elevator truck in. which will lift 500 lb. to a height of 55 in. is a new product of Powell and Co„ Burry Port, Curtis. Known as the Vertolifter, it incorporates a
double-acting hydraulic pump powering a single ram which lifts through the medium of a roller chain. A control allowing the rate of descent to be varied is provided.
The frame is of channel-section steel and the platform has four rollerbearing guide wheels, while the base is carried on two roller-bearing front wheels and two castors at the rear, enabling the appliance to turn in its awn length. Alternative sizes of platform are available, either 91 in. by 19 in. or 151 in. by 19 in.
The overall width is in. and the height 75i in.
Bolt with Sealing Ring Pl.A BOLT incorporating a recessed head which houses a neoprene sealing ring is now being produced by The British Screw Co., Ltd., Kirkstall Road, Leeds.
Known as the Selabolt, it combats vibration, and is said to eliminate squeaks and rattles, at the same time giving a certain degree of flexibility. The Selabolt is also suitable for making. watertight joints, and will not injure vitreous enamel or glass.
Quick Lashing
1-1 A CABLE assembly, the length of
which can be rapidly adjusted for securing or lashing loads and so on, is now available in various sizes from Furness Withy and Co., Ltd., Finland Yard, Surrey Commercial Docks, London, S.E.I6.
The assembly consists of a tensioner and two lengths of steel-wire rope. One is attached permanently to an anchorage beyond the fulcrum of an arm on the tensioner. whilst the (zither engages a slat in the end of the tensioner body and carries a number of loose collars with which its effective length can be varied. Initial adjustments are made at the collars with the tensioner open, closure of the tensioner arm tightening the assembly by some 2 in.
New Fire Extinguisher
ANEW pressurized fire extinguisher of the vapourizing liquid type has been developed by the Pyrene Co., Ltd., 9 Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.I. A squeeze-grip release valve facilitates one-hand operation and gives on-off control of the discharge of &e-fighting
Added security against accidental discharge and vibration is provided by a special locking device, whilst a small pressure gauge allows the container pressure to be checked instantly. It also simplifies recharging.
The fire extinguisher can be supplied charged with one quart of either Pyrene fire extinguisher liquid or chlorobromomethane (CB). Both are effective against tires involving motor vehicles, and small petrol, paraffin or alcohol fires. They may also be used With safety against outbreaks in electrical apparatus.
Filler for Bodywork
flA NEW filler for bodywork repairs is now obtainable from D. 3. (Tipon), Ltd., 83 Piccadilly, London. W.I. It is known as Prestolith Super. No heating processes are required and the materials can be prepared in three to four minutes. They must, however, be mixed in a rubber container.
No matter what depth is applied, the preparation dries hard in 20-30 minutes, and can be filed, machined, drilled, tapped and painted. It is also resistant to heat, oils, petrol, acid and the like.
It is available in packs of 2 kg., 5 kg. and 10 kg., and prices range from El 18s. per kg. to fl 15s. per kg., according to quantity. Rubber mixing bowls, and stainless-steel mixing and application knives may also be purchased for 4s. 8d. and 2s. 6d. respectively.
