GOODS and passenger vehicles accounted for the major part of the export trade done by A. B. Volvo, Sweden, in 1956, states Mr. Bjorn Prytz, chairman, in his annual report.
Certain overseas markets improved substantially: 1,044 vehicles were exported to the Argentine and most of these were oilers. He claims that Volvo models were the best-selling oilers in Argentina last year, and that the company's lorries also took the lead in Belgium, where Volvo sold 68 per cent. more commercial vehicles than their nearest rivals.
Other Scandinavian countries remained Volvo's leading export markets, but there were setbacks in certain countries in which the company had previously sold large numbers of vehicles, notably Finland and Brazil. In Africa, the results of a long-term introductory campaign began to bear fruit. The sales organization in that continent had been improved and better sales in the future could be counted upon.
On the Swedish market, 5,395 Volvo vehicles out of a total of 12,736 goods vehicles of all makes were registered • during last year, whilst 239 Volvo buses were registered out of a total of 507 of -all makes. Of the total of 122,779 goods vehicles registered in Sweden at December 31, 1956, 47,260 were of Volvo manufacture, and of -the 8,815 buses. 4,199 were products of the company.
