of NJ coal delivery vehicle by St. Cuthberts Co-operative Association in Edinburgh has led to a decision to convert further units. Albion 4-5-ton platform lorries are being employed, and are being equipped with front doors to the cab, in which the crew of three porters are accommodated.
A Ford oil engine is used in place of a six-cylindered petrol unit. Extensive tests proved that 15 gallons of oil fuel lasted for the same mileage as 40 gallons of petrol.
The Association hope shortly to investigate a design of transporter which will allow the handling of coal sacks and other heavy loads up flights of stairs.
