consequences of A and B-licence holders evading the conciliation agreement were made by Mr. A. T. James, K.C., the South Wales Licensing Authority, at a sitting at Cardiff, last Friday.
He said that many complaints had been received from the South 'Wales and Mon. Joint Conciliation Board regarding breaches of the agreement, and a number of these instances had been referred to the chief conciliation officer of the Ministry of Lahdrir for the South \Vales area. In some cases, satisfactory results had been obtained.
Mr. James pointed out that he had power to prosecute an employer, or suspend or revoke a licence in the event of disregard of the agreement being proved.
France Encourages Gas Fuel.
Two new bodies have been organized in Paris to encourage the development of the use of compressed gas as fuel for motor vehicles and other purposes. The Societe Francaise pour l'Exploitation des Gaz Comprirnes will deal with the commercial side and the Comite pour le Developpement de l'Emploi des Gas Comprimes with technical aspects.
Big Trunk-road Improvements. Two important trunk roads—the London-Holyhead and the Mid-Wales —are being improved by the aid of grants from the Road Fund. Part of the former lies Within the boundaries of Birmingham, and this exceptionally busy section is being modernized by the provision of separate carriageways in each direction; eventually these will be extended to the junction of Sutton Road. The road will be widened from an average of 50 ft. to 120 ft. between fences.
The Mid-Wales road will have a new bridge to carry it over the River Irfon, near Builth Wells. £835,000 ROAD SCHEMES FOR LINCOLNSHIRE.
A five-year programme of highway works in the Lindsey division of Lincolnshire, involving an expenditure of £835,000, was approved by the county council, last week-end. The programme includes the construction of Laceby by-pass and other improvements at Laceby; Caistor by-pass; a new road from Waltham station to Halton-le-Clay; Brigg by-pass; Wainfleet by-pass; Waltham village by-pass, and Great Coates by-pass, at a total cost of £341,000. The reconstruction of unclassified roads in all parts of the county will cost £250,000.
The council discussed the difficulties which had arisen with regard to , the purchase of the sites of the various bypass rOacls, owing to the Ministry of Transport withholding its approval of the schemes, on the ground that more land might be required to provide twin carriageways.
The council was informed that building development'. was about to take place near several of the sites, and that if the Ministry persisted in its attitude, the cost of the land would probably be considerably increased, owing to the delay.
'Meeting of Creditors Of Garner Motors.
