BID TO REMOVE ROAD-RAIL COMPETITION.

M. jadot, the director of the Belgian State Railway Exploitation Co., has just submitted to the Belgian Royal Commission on Transport a scheme to eliminate the existing competition between road and rail transport. fle proposes that two new Boards shall he set up, one consisting of representatives of road-transport undertakings and the other of canal and river-transport concerns.

The executive committees of the two Boards would co-opt representatives of the State Railway undertaking and similarly the latter would co-opt delegates from the two new Boards. Out of the three bodies thus brought into being would be formed a Transport Co-ordination Board, to be presided over by a Government delegate.

Each of the three Boards would monopolize its respective mode of transport, but the Co-ordination Board would have as its duty the task of seeing that this was carried out in the economic interests Of the country_ According to the project, there would be no interference with existing roadtransport _contractors forthree years; after which the Road Transport Board would put lip concessions to public tender, with a priority in favour of old-established concerns.
