Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Worried about the ever-spiralling cost of fuel? Well worry no more, because CM has come to the rescue with its 50 Ways to Cut Your Fuel Bill feature (p30). And you’ll be pleased to learn that it’s incredibly easy to slash your fuel costs. All you need to do is follow these simple rules...

First, relocate to Norfolk, fill your 44-tonne Euro-5 tractor with foreign-bought high-density diesel, top-up the synthetic engine, automatic transmission and axle oil, and close-couple your aerodynamic double-deck trailer with its steering rear axle.

Make sure your aerodynamic aids are in place and that the roof deflector is set at the right height, ensure that the re-grooved tyres are over-inflated and worn down to the point of being barely legal, and that the fuse for the radio has been removed.

Before your highly trained driver sets off on his eastwards journey, you’ll want to remind them that you’ll be using the on-board telematics to assess their performance. The journey will have to take place on a warm night, but not too warm as it night get a bit unpleasant in the cab – after all you would have previously discon nected the air conditioning and sealed the windows shut! The driver will need to stick to the motorway, but seeing as the UK’s flattest county hasn’t got any motorways, a dual carriageway will have to do. Either way, the cruise control must be set to 50mph throughout.

And when the driver reaches his destination, and the telematics confirm amazing fuel consumption, make sure you reward

them with a subscription to CM.
