Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

inquirer that "drivers of certain mobile cranes, if these cranes are classified as engineering plant, are exempt from the need to hold an hgv driving licence".

I drive a mobile crane for the handling of round timber only and when I applied for an hgv driving licence I was told I did not need one. I asked the Licensing Authority to tell me what Act this came under, but as yet have not received a reply.

The weight of my six-wheeler crane is 5 tons 15cwt and rate of road tax is £5 a year.

Could you tell me whether I need an hgv licence or not ?

AYou do not need an hgv driving licence for the mobile crane you are driving : it is classed as an engineering plant as the taxation rate is only £5 a year.

The regulation under which exemption is granted in your case is The Heavy Goods Vehicles (Drivers' Licences) Regulations 1969.
