Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

is legal for us to use an amber flashing light (not a rotating amber beacon) fitted to the middle of the cab roof on our caravan transporter, while the vehicle is in motion carrying wide loads?

AThe regulations concerning these lamps are to be found in The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1971 Paragraph 64 (1) (b) and subsequent paragraphs.

The lamp must be of the rotating type, not flashing.

Paragraphs 56 and 57 state that the light shown by the lamp shall be visible from a point on any part of a circle drawn in a horizontal plane with the lamp at the centre. The light must be visible not less than 60 and not more than 150 equal times per minute and the intervals between each display of light towards any point on the circle must be constant. Such lamps "shall be in the form of a concentrated beam or base rotating in a substantially horizontal plane and the total wattage of all the bulbs with which the lamp is fitted shall not exceed 36 watts".
