Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A range of drawbar trailers available either with a Roballo integral turntable or detachable drawbar dollies is announced by Scarnmell Lorries Ltd. Each type has a gross capacity of 16 tons and three body arrangements are offered, in lengths between 20 and 30 feet. In the ease of the doIly model the semi-trailer may he detached from the dolly for normal operation with a tractive unit. Two-speed landing gear is provided, as is a removable kingpin.

The trailers are offered as flat platforms, twistlock skeletals or dual-purpose flat platform trailers equipped with retractable twistlocks. The main frames of all three are made from 16in. deep I-section rolled-steel side-members, which reduce to a depth of 7.5in. forward of the swan-neck. I-section floor cross-bearers are threaded through the frame—except for skeletals—at 2ft centres and these are supplemented by 6in. square box section cross-members, which house the twistlocks and support the containers.

In all cases Rubery Owen 9-ton axles are used with 10.00-22.5 PR14 tyres. S-cam brakes are employed, air actuated via type24 dual diaphragms.

Two different brake coupling standards, ie the palm coupling and the C-type coupling, are accommodated for on the doily model while the turntable model has standard palm couplings for brake connections.

The dolly may be. used with any semitrailer of appropriate weight for conversion to a drawbar trailer. It has its own braking system and compressed air reservoir and is plated at 7 tons.

The turntable model is plated for 16 tons gross trailer weight, with the semi-trailer part of the dolly model at 14.5 tons gtw. When the dolly is fitted, gross trailer weight is brought up to 16 tons.

The drawbar trailer wheelbase is five feet less than the overall length, the front overhang being 2ft. The drawbar pia centre is six feet ahead of the trailer front. Unladen height is 4ft 2.5in. and a typical unladen weight for the 20ft dual purpose drawbar model is 3.3 tons; that for a 20ft-long skeletal semi-trailer, complete with dolly, is 3.1 tons. The dolly itself weighs 1.25 tons.
