• George Cumming, operating as BGC Transport in Glasgow, appeared before the Scottish LA last week to show cause following a conviction at Dumfries Sheriff court for which a fine of £20 was imposed. In January this year a delayed prohibition had been issued and failure to keep proper records was admitted. Mr Cumming said that with regard to the Sheriff court fine, this had been imposed on him as owner of the vehicle although it had been claimed and could be shown that failure lay with a garage. He had sent his only operating vehicle to a garage in Glasgow to have a defective tyre replaced; but that firm had had a fire some time previously and had been working without light, and his own defective tyre had been put back on the vehicle. It had then been stopped within two days and the conviction followed.

Mr A. B. Birnie, the Scottish LA, said Mr Cumming had had one vehicle inspected and one delayed prohibition issued covering items which should have been spotted by proper inspection. The licence authorized four vehicles and three trailers and the LA decided to curtail it to two vehicles and one trailer and suspend the whole licence for the month of April so that for a month Mr Cumming would operate no vehicles at all.
