1(01 D. A. S. Plastow, 39, has been appointed managing director of Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd and becomes the youngest md of a large automotive group in the UK. Mr Plastow joined the R-R motor car division in 1958 after completing an engineering apprenticeship at Vauxhall Motors and commissioned service in REME. lie became marketing director of the motor car division in 1967 and md of the division at Crewe in 1971. Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd was formed in April 1971 and plans to go public later this year. In addition to its diesel division which supplies engines for specialist manufacturers, it is undertaking long-term development work on behalf of the Ministry of Defence in the diesel rotary field.
El MI Sir Anthony Burney has been reappointed chairman of the Freight Integration Council which was set up under the 1968 Transport Act to consider matters relating to the integration of public sector freight transport services. Richard Marsh, BR B chairman, and D. E. A. Pettit, NFC chairman, are ex-officio members. Sir Anthony is chairman of Debenhams Ltd and a director of several other companies. Also reappointed as members of FIC are Col. F. T. Davies, Sir Sidney Greene, Alex H. Kitson and J. A. McMullen.
Alan Dix, 49, managing director of Volkswagen (GB) Ltd—a subsidiary of Thomas Tilling Ltd—is to return to the United States to join a new financial holding company.
Walter Brown has joined National Carbonising Plant and Transport as the New 011erton depot manager. Mr Brown was formerly general manager with Lane Brothers (Tankers) Ltd of Scunthorpe and Bradford, and his particular responsibility will be to promote and extend the road tanker section in support of the traditional bulk tipper fleet at Newark Road, New 011erton. His son David Brown, 22, has joined the N CC at the same time and is working in the traffic office at New 011erton. Operational, traffic and office administrative responsibilities at New 011erton remain with Stan Ford as depot superintendent; Mike Fell, chief traffic clerk; George Smith, maintenance superintendent, and Eileen Sharratt, chief clerk.
S. T. Crompton has been appointed to the board of Crompton Leyland Electricars Ltd in succession to J. D. Abell who was recently appointed treasurer of British Leyland Motor Corporation. division.
D. W. Redmond has been appointed managing director of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd. J. A. Taylor becomes general manager, Kenning commercial workshops, Leeds and Ossett. He was previously employed by the Kenning Motor Group as assistant general manager with overall responsibility for Kenning commercial workshops in Leeds and Salford. Mr Taylor joined the spares and services department of the Group in 1946 and in 1952 was appointed office manager at the heavy vehicle repair centre at Ossett. In 1969 he was appointed manager of the heavy vehicle repair centre at Seacroft, Leeds.
H. A. Russett (Premier Transport Ltd, Bristol) has been re-elected chairman of the Road Haulage Association long-distance functional group. L. G. Valiance (W. L. Valiance Ltd, Newton Abbot) is vicechairman, K. S. Robinson (A. R. Marshall and Sons (H) Ltd, Nottingham) second vice-chairman. M. V. Robson (Ferrymasters Ltd, Altrincham) has been re-elected chairman of the RHA international road transport functional group. G. Cave-Wood (Cave-Wood Transport Ltd, Chesham) and G. W. Oliver (Beck and Pollitzer Engineering Ltd, Dartford) have been re-elected vice-chairmen.
G. W. Pell (G. W. Pell (Kirton) Ltd, Lincolnshire) has been re-elected chairman of the RHA agricultural hauliers' functional group. J. B. Dailey (Ground's Transport Services Ltd, Spalding) was re-elected vice-chairman; J. B. Hempsall (C. J. Hempsall and Sons (Contracts) Ltd, Newark) and G. D. Sleightholme (Melton, Yorks) were also elected vice-chairmen.
J. L. Dickinson, managing director of The Skefko Ball Bearing Co Ltd, Luton, has been appointed High Sheriff of Bedfordshire.
R. Lay has been elected chairman of the Institute of Traffic Administration; R. Carlisle is vice-chairman and, with M. Linden, joint secretary. Mrs. H. Morgan is assistant secretary; F. Harpham treasurer; B. C. Clarke press secretary; Mr Linden is also education officer. In addition to these members the committee consists of M. C. Simpson (immediate past chairman), R. E. Teear, A. R. Hammond, D. Tite and J. D. Bailey.

W. V. Golding, divisional manager supplies and transport, general steels division, British Steel Corporation, Northern and Tubes Group, deputy chairman of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for the North East, has succeeded J. R. Roper, who has retired, as chairman.
