Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Dutch company DAF and the International Harvester Company of Chicago announced last week that they are to combine their activities in the fields of development, production and marketing of commercial vehicles.

Under the agreement DAF is transferring all its commercial vehicle activities (which include trucks, bus chassis, special and military vehicles, trailers and marine and industrial engines) to a new company in which IH will have a minority interest of 33 per cent. The new company is to be called Van Doorne's Bedrijfswagenfabriek DAF NV. The basis for car production is to remain unaltered and the holding company for both operations will be Van Doorne's Automobielfabrieken NV. DAE expects that as a result of the co-operation its commercial vehicle turnover will double within the next few years. • IH, one of the largest manufacturers of heavy trucks in the United States, has extensive sales and building outlets in Africa, Asia, Australia, Latin America and North America and DAF will have access to these markets and at the same time will supplement IH's own range.

A supervisory board will have control ol the new company with two of the six members coming from IH. Day to day management will be in DAF's hands.

The new agreement will in no way affeci the recent arrangement made betweer DAF, KHD/Magirus, Saviem and Volye for the development and testing of a nem series of light trucks in the 612-ton-gvm range. Pictures on p. 10.
