A, the British Railways network Press conference my attempt to draw a hint from Mrs. Castle as to the identity of the head of the joint road/rail parcels organization failed. I suggested that it would be inappropriate to appoint a rail boss in view of the enormous losses incurred by the rail parcels organization.
Mrs. Castle mentioned the word "hypothetical"—then admitted that the matter was under consideration. Sir Stanley Raymond interjected bluntly: "The best man for the job will be appointed, wherever he comes from". Hm. . .
