coach and bus companies in the Group since 1937, has retired. His successor is Barry M. Jennings, rolling-stock engineer since 1963 to Aberdeen Corporation. Only the third chief engineer in the company's history, Mr. Jennings will be responsible for more than 350 coaches, buses, vans and cars. Ronald M. Crowther has been appointed Group chief accountant. He continues as company secretary to Wallace Arnold Sales and Service Ltd., Wilks and Meade Ltd., and other subsidiary companies and as a director of Northern Computer Bureau Ltd.
W. R. Peel has been elected chairman and T. Southern vice-chairman of the Industrial Transport Association's Manchester division. K. G. Shave, chief mechanical engineer (road services) of London Transport, has been appointed a full-time member of the London Transport Board. He replaces the late Mr. E. C. Ottaway.
H. Armitage, 29, has been appointed to the TRTA vehicle inspection service as Yorkshire vehicle inspector. He was previously a vehicle examiner with the Leeds City Police.
R. B. Rider has joined the TRTA maintenance inspection staff based at Croydon. He was previously a service engineer with York Truck Equipment Ltd.
J. Day, traffic manager of the Telephone Manufacturing Co. Ltd., has been elected chair'man of the London Division of the Industrial Transport Association. Vice-chairman and hon. treasurer is G. A. Miles, transport manager of Ruberoid Co. Ltd.
J. A. Acraman, chief electrician of Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd., retires today after completion of 50 years' service. At a luncheon in Derby last week a presentation was made to Mr. Acraman by the chairman, R. J. Ellery. When Mr. Acraman joined Trent the company had only 14 buses petrol-electrics.
At present rolling stock engineer of Southport Corporation Transport, S. L. Pillar has been appointed deputy manager and engineer of Preston Corporation transport department. He began his transport career as an articled pupil with Plymouth transport department in 1935.
George F. Wildsmith has been appointed transport and milk distribution manager of Ellesmere Port Co-operative Society. Aged 55, Mr. Wildsmith was previously transport manager of Wolverhampton Society.
G. A. Morgan has been elected chairman of the West Midland division of the TRTA; vicechairmen are G. C. W. Nabb, of Joseph Lucas Ltd., and C. R. Lynam, of Wilkins and Mitchell Ltd.
R. C. Russell, sales director of the road tanks, welded plant and cryogenic divisions of W. P. Butterfield (Engineers) Ltd., becomes deputy managing director on April 1. It. W. Sanclilands, technical representative in the Midlands and South Wales, has been appointed production manager of Butterfield.
Transport manager and engineer at Reading (Berks.) since 1946, William J. Evans retires in August. He was due to retire on May 10—his 65th birthday—but his period of service was extended so he could complete 32 years' local government work. He went to Reading from Cardiff where he was chief engineer and joint manager. Before that he was in Rotherham.
