IN his annual statement, Mr. C. B. 'Nixon, chairman of Leyland Motors, Ltd., claims that his company has made the largest contribution of any heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer to the motor' industry's outstanding export record.
Its exports, he says, were Yalued at £5,867,072. Last year's exports were 2q per cent. higher -than iti 1948 and 161 per cent. higher Than in 1938. The number of vehicles delivered rose by 29 per cent. and /5 per cent. respectively. Gross turnover was 23 per cent. greater than in 1948., and 176 peecent. higher than in 1938.
Mr. Nixon. also says that the company his%34, per 'cent. more employees and:its wages bill has risen by 169 per cent, ', .If the recent demajid for an increase of El a week in wages had been granted, the concession would have cost the company about £800,000 a year.

BYFebruary 28, 1,579 haulage businesses had been.-transferred :to the British-Transport Commission. In 1,069 cases, provisional ascertainments had been calculated, and payments on them had been made in,,664 instances. In addition, 293 'Smaller cash advances hied been granted. Seventy-eight haulier's who Were offered Transport Stock on various dates between October 31, 1949, and February 17 last, preferred to wait 'for payment until April 1.
