Using Superheated COMPRESSED air is Steam for Spraying prominently employed for

Organic Paints . spraying paints, but a new technique has been developed by the du Pont concern It consists of superheated steam used in conjunction with organic finishes. This permits spraying at higher viscosities, the paint being both heated and atomized at the nozzle. Generally, the pressure is the same as with air, and there is little difference in the cost, but cleanliness of the spray booth is much improved. It is claimed that the paint is more evenly dispersed, and that in some cases less material is required. The difficulty is to prevent the handle and trigger of the gun from becoming uncomfortably hot.

• a28 ACCORDING to Mr. J.

Bonar MacColl, the information officer of the Dunlop concern, in -an educational broadcast to the Forces, one teaspoonful of milk from the rubber tree contains some seven million globules of rubber in suspension. He added that the cultivation of rubber in the Far East now covers 9,000,000 acres, which all sprang from 70,000 seeds brought from Brazil to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Here, 2,000 plants were _produced from them and sent to Singapore and Ceylon. It might be interesting to compute how many rubber globules there are in a large commercial tyre, but we will leave this to those more arithmetically minded.

AVE feel quite envious of the " 29 leading distributors of Austin vehicles who arrived from Canada on March 20 to spend a three-weeks' goodwill tour of Britain. The programme arranged for their entertainment is one of the most comprehensive that we have seen. With the ladies, the total number of visitors is 45, and they have become honorary members of the A.A. and R.A.C. A fleet of 20 Austin MO cars has been allocated to them. The loose-leaf itinerary makes quite a large book of 76 pages, and is a fine example of Austin efficiency. There is a list of the guests, space for autographs, an introduction giving general details of the visits and the people they will meet, advice on expenses, currency and touring, and a list of Austin distributors and agents en route. This is followed by a day-to-day record of the tour, with the route shown in strip form Details and plans of the Longbridge Works are included. The party will also pay visits to Fort Dunlop and the Lucas Works, fly to Paris, and see the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, Houses of Parliament and many other places of interest and beauty.
