rINE of the most difficult routes in V./England must surely be that operated by Caerphilly Urban District Council. Known as the Thornhill route, it includes the Caerphilly Mountain, which means the climbing of a long stretch having a gradient of one in five.
Following tests by the manager of Caerphilly Transport Department, in conjunction with the Daimler company, it was found that% standard Daimler single-deck bus, with a full load of passengers, could make the climb with a safe margin of reserve power.
One of these vehicles now operates over this route four times a day, fre. quently with the maximum number of standing passengers allowed. No overheating, either of the engine (Jr Fluid Flywheel, has been experienced.
