Norbert Dentressangle in plans to close trio of depots

By Roger Brown

IN THE SAME week it has unveiled its new chief executive, Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has also revealed that it is holding consultations with staff over plans to close three depots.

ND is currently involved in consultations over closing its depots at Pontypool. Torfaen; Southampton, Hampshire; and Bovey Tracey, Devon. A total of 150 jobs are under threat. A spokesman for ND says: "We regret having to take this action, which is in response to the general economic downturn and the need to streamline our service.

"Every effort will be made to assist any staff made redundant at the end of the process, and to minimise customer disruption."

Norbert Dentressangle Group has appointed Francois Bertreau as chief executive this week.

He has been a member of ND Group's executive board since 2002 and he will replace JeanClaude Michel, who has been incumbent in the role of chief executive since 1998.

Bertreau, who joined the ND group in 1998 as director of logistics, will continue to manage this division and will supervise strategy and acquisitions, as well as communications, The ND chairman, Norbert Dentressangle, says: "Over recent years, the Norbert Dentressangle Group has witnessed active, successful development under the drive of the executive board chaired by Jean-Claude Michel."

He adds: "Following the acquisition of Christian Salvesen. Norbert Dentressangle Group doubled in size, and its scope of activity has broadened quite significantly across Europe.

"On my suggestion, the supervisory board considered a change was necessary to navigate and succeed operationally in a new and important stage in the group's history, and. as such, prepare to rise to the forthcoming challenges with a view to global development."

A spokesman for ND says the group will announce its half-year results next week, when it will provide further details about how its integration with Christian Salvesen is progressing.
