• Sixteen conductresses employed by Thomas Bros (Port Talbot) Ltd are being trained as bus drivers. The women, aged from the early twenties to early forties, are given lessons in single-deck vehicles outside normal working hours. Said the company's traffic manager, Mr B. M. K. Homer: "They seem to be making fair progress, and are quite keen.
"We have a dual policy, to try to ease the present staff shortage and at the same time prepare ourselves for full one-man operation within the next two years," he added.
