• Edinburgh Corporation provided a special service to the British Commonwealth Games over the period of the event, using 70-seat double-deckers and 12-15-seater Fords in a shuttle service which gained the fullest praise from athletes and officials attending the Games.
Headquarters were located in the Commonwealth Village at Salisbury Edinburgh, where some 3,000 athletes and officials were housed in the Edinburgh University Halls of Residence.
Retired drivers from the Corporation service were recruited for this occasion.
