Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Leasing of trailers as an alternative to outright purchase has now been arranged by Merriworth (Engineering) Ltd. Rich= Road, Slade Green, Erith, Kent. The leases can be arranged for threeto seven-year periods, at the end of which the trailers will be replaced by new ones and 93 per cent of the old trailer's secondhand price given to the operator. Alternatively. the trailers can be kept beyond the original contract period for a nominal yearly rental of between £3 and £10 a year.

There will be no loss of fleet discount if an operator decides to save capital by leasing instead of buying. Moreover, no deposit has to be paid.

Some weekly rental costs, taking a five-year lease as an example. are (gross): £3 16s lid for a single-axle platform, £5 19s for a 33ft platform tandem. £6 4s for a 40ft platform tandem. £6 9s for a 40ft platform skeletal, .£5 4s 2d for a 20ft skeletal, £5 14s for a 40 ft skeletal, Lii 18s for a 40ft van and £9 I8s 6d for a 12 metre

TIR tilt tandem. In practice, says Merriworth, all these costs are at least halved by the time resale and tax-relief credits are taken into account.

The Merriworth leasing plan can be arranged through a dealer without affecting normal trade-in arrangements of old vehicles.
