following are the latest results municipal-transport operation the past year:

Yarmouth--After meeting trading expenses, together with interest, sinking-fund charges and depreciation, the buses earned a profit of £9,650, against £7,510 in 1934-35. This surplus was, however, insufficient to meet the debt on the superseded tramways, which amounted to £9,861. After adding certain items to the credit side of the account, a surplus of 4375 was shown. The total income Irons the buses was £56,299 1£55,417 in 1934-35), against which working expenses of £39,846 (£40,327 a year earlier) had to be set.

Effinburgh.—Increases wore recorded in revenue, in the number of passengers carried and in mileage. The combined tram and bus systems provided a revenue of £1,057,391, compared with £1,029,697 a year earlier. The number of passengers carried rose from 182,8.36,441 to 18.8.447,241, whilst mileage increased horn 17,783,720 to 18,690,856. Analysed, the following results are obtained:— Tramways Total revenue, 2807,535 (2800.839 in. 1934-35); passengers, 145,747.449

(144,412,303); mileage, 13,122,645 (12,777,2231; expenditure, £584,692; net surplus, .25,334. Reyes and coaches: Revenue, £249,784 (£228,858 in 1934-35); passer,. gets, 42,699,792 (313,424.1381; .m■leage, 5.568,211 15.006.497); expenditure, 4242,333; net deficit, £3,778.

Of the-162 buses and coaches, 51 are oilers,

the makes of oil engine in use being A.E.C., Beardmore, Crossley, Gardner and Thornycroft. Burnley, Caine and Nelsen.—The Joint Transport Committee accounts show gross income at £262,135 and working expenses at £209,689, leaving 252,446 to he transferred to net revenue. After providing for reserve, depreciation and sinking fund, £21,226 remained to be shared between the constituent authorities, in the following proportions:— Enrnley, 19/52n4s (212,605); Caine, 5/32ods ;23,517); Nelson, 8/32nds (£5,306). The Committee abandoned tramways in May of last year and now has 14-0 buses, of which 73 are oilers. Eastbourne.—The net profit declined from £6,026, in 1934.35, to £4,583 last year, but gross revenue rose by £3,246 to £83,694. Total expenditure similarly increased by £4,514. The total number of passengers carried (14,343,836) was a record for the undertaking, and represents an increase of 546.107 on the previous year's figure. Mileage rose by 94,562 to 1,384,655.

Liverpool.—The trams carried 251,489,512 passengers, an increase of 2,231,137 on the previoue year's figure. The receipts were £1,338,534, higher by 215,909. The buses carried 25,417,53.3 passengers, an increase of 1,971,260, the receipts being £189,377, or £16,697 more.

The surplus on the operation of the whole undertaking showed a decrease of £7,510. The net deficit on buses was reduced froin £71,729 to £31,278. There was a surplus of £11,263 in connection with the agreements with the Ribble and Crosville concerns.
