• A meeting has been arranged between Cheshire haulier James Ham & Son and the United Road Transport Union (URTU) to discuss the recent redundancies at the company after the union expressed its 'disappointment" about not being consulted (cra-23 Jan).
Union officials Graham Bird and Mike Billingham will meet irlam management on 30 January at the company's Stoke depot.
This follows Ham's decision to make 11 drivers redundant at its Grantham depot and to lay off 17 drivers at Normanton.
URTU national negotiator Roy Abrahams has welcomed the meeting, which he says is "as much about looking ahead to the future as about criticising what has gone on in the past". Issues to he raised at the meeting will inclu the company's perceived failure to const about the redundancies and to clarify wheth the drivers at Normantan were temporarily la off or whether they were actually ma. redundant.
