Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Isuzu Truck (UK) is launching a short-wheelbase NKR(S) single-rear-wheel chassis with factory-fitted tipper or dropside body in March in order to counter the impact of the new Nissan Cabstar. It will also offer a longer (3.36m) wheelbase NKR(T) 3.5-tonner with a more powerful threelitre Euro-3 engine.

More significantly, Isuzu will move above its current 7.5tonne product ceiling in May, when it unveils a 12-tonne FSeries chassis cab at the NEC Show. However, as with its original UK range, the F-series will go through a number of UK "Fleet Clinics" in order to ensure its spec is 100% right for the UK marketplace. As a result we won't be seeing it arriving in any real volume much before the end of the year.

According to King the company must prove service and back-up quality on its lightweight models before moving any further up the weight range—although she confirms that she is very interested in offering heavier rigids up to 18 tonnes. These are particularly important to her because "until we have a heavier truck the industry will not perceive us as a 'serious' manufacturer".

Isuzu will also consider offering six-wheelers, possibly for lightweight mixer applications, but King is adamant: 'We'll never have tractors as the Japanese are so far away from a UK spec and a European network would be an issue too."
