• Ken Turner CBE, the first president of the Freight Transport Association has died at the age of 79.
Turner, president from 1961 to 1966, headed the association when it changed its name from the Traders Road Transport Association in 1964. He was also the first British president of the International Road Transport Union and was chairman of the Road Transport Industry Training Board from 1966 to 1978.
