As part of its management reorganisation, four new area general managers (designate) have been named at Greater Manchester Transport. The eastern area is under the control of Ian Bradshaw, dealing with Tameside, Hyde Road, Birchfields Road and Oldham garages. He was previously, divisional manager central south. Tom Dunstan takes over responsibility for the south, covering Princess Road, Altrincham, Northenden and Stockport garages, after previously working as districts operations manager. Previously general manager of Lancashire United Transport, Ken Holt has taken over as area general manager (designate) for the west covering Atherton, Swinton, Hindley, Leigh, Wigan and Bolton garages, while John Mort takes up the same position in the north covering Frederick Road, Weaste, Queens Road, Bury and Rochdale.

York Trailer has made a number of new senior appointments with Allan Meddings assuming the role of director of branch development, responsible for the development of York branches, and the planning and organisation of new branches and depots. Barrie Plowman is the new technical sales manager, and Tom Harvey takes on the role of branch sales manager at Corby with overall responsibility for the sale of products, services and parts in the East Midlands and Eastern Counties. Finally, Harold Keech is the new sales manager at Watford with similar responsibilities in the western Home Counties and North London.

New bus manager with DAF Bus at Marlow is Syd Fairless, who was formerly regional sales manager with MAN/VW Truck and Bus Ltd. He began his career as a coach mechanic and later worked in the car and lorry industries before returning to coaches again in 1969, selling new and used vehicles.

Victor Molyneux retires next month as director of the National Coal Board's Road Transport Service. Mr Molyneux joined the Royal Army Service Corps in 1933 and was later given command of the RASC Transport Company in the Seventh Armoured Division (the Desert Rats), and received the Military Cross for bravery in the field. After the war he went to Canada and Germany, and following service in Hong Kong and Malaya, he returned to Germany in 1962 as deputy director supplies and Transport 1 (BR). Mr Molyneux joined the National Coal Board in 1967 when its road, transport service was established.

Sir Frederick Wood, who was National Bus Company chairman from 1972 to 1978, is the new chairman of the National Enterprise Board. He is also parttime chairman of the National Research Development Corporation.

And former EEC transport commissioner Richard Burke also has a new job as chairman of cigarette company Player and Wills (Ireland) Ltd.
