WORK of the Midlands Road Development Group and its allies during the past seven years is "at last bearing fruit" according to chairman Ray So!lett.
"Although there have been unacceptable cuts in total expenditure on roads, Government is ag last recognising that the Midlands — the geographical centre and the industrial heart of England — must have its major road schemes completed for national, not just parochial, reasons," he said.
Addressing the MRDG's annual review meeting in the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Mr Sollett was critical of the Armitage panel which consisted "solely of academics — not a road or transport person among them".
He also criticised delays in road schemes and referred to the "hopelessly warped interpretation of the word priority",
