AS ANNOUNCED in CM last week, a new Ford Escort van is now available with several differences in specification over the previous models.
Much of the mechanical specification is the same as for the old range, The 1 100 and 1300cc (67 and 79cuin) engine options are retained along with the fourspeed gearbox as standard equipment. The major difference in specification is an increase in payload capacity of nearly 51kg ( I cwt) over the previous 406 kg (8 cwt) model, which gives the new "45' model a payload of 450 kg (8.9 cwt). The payload of the "30" model remains the same at 300 kg (5.9 cwt). To take the increased payload on the 45 the rear springs have been uprated.
The brakes are drums front and rear on the 30 with a disc front/ drum rear option (the standard arrangement for the 45). A brake servo is a similar option.
The new range continues to use the
body panels and rear doors from I range although the front-end styli been changed. The maximum space is 2.05 cu m (72 cu ft) and ac the load compartment through t1 door measures 950 mm (37i ,in) h 1030 mm (41 in) wide.
