VEHICLES carrying dangerous goods to overseas destinations can carry orange reflector plates from February 12 when the Motor Vehicles (Rear Markings) Regulations 1975 SI 29 comes into force. The Regulation, which is permissive, relates only to vehicles engaged on international traffic. If such vehicles are used on purely domestic journeys the reflective plates must be removed or covered.
The plates are required overseas to conform with the amendments to the European agreement on the carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR ).

Coming into operation today is the Motor Vehicles (Third Party Risks) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1974 SI 2187 which relates to the insurance cover of vehicles normally based in certain overseas countries while being used here, This Regulation costs 4p from the same sources.
