Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Even though Leeds City Transport will have an estimated deficit of £559,000 at the end of the financial year on March 31, 1969. it will retain the 2d minimum when fares are incr'eased on February 9 next.

In Leeds last week the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners granted an application to retain the 2d fare for the first stage and 4d for the second and to increase most other fares by 2d. In addition, all stages over 13 which used to cost 1s will be charged thus: up to 17 stages, 1s 2d; 18 to 20, is 4d; and 21 stages and over, 1s 6d.

Children's fares, which were strictly half the adult fare previously, will now have 2d jumps, thus all odd denominations will be increased by 1d.

The Commissioners were told that the increases would yield £766,000 in a full year and thus by March 31, 1970 the department expected to be in credit by £195,000.

• At Leicester County magistrates court fines totalling £75 were imposed on A. M. Walker Ltd., hauliers, of Cambridge Road, Cosby, Leics., after pleas of guilty had been entered to 141 charges of failing to ensure that drivers kept proper records.
