• In a statement opposing the increased p.s.v. fees which come into effect tomorrow (February 1—CM last week), the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association revealed that Mr. Michael Heseltine, Opposition frontbench spokesman on transport, has announced that he will pray against the regulations.
While accepting that the existing fees could no longer cover the actual cost of the services provided the PVOA submitted to Ministry officials on November 26 that certain economies could and should be made before the fees were reassessed. It was pointed out that this was what the Government required of any industry proposing price increases and it was incumbent on the
Government to live up to its own standards.
In particular, the Association stressed the economies of introducing a combined excise and p.s.v. licence and also economies that could be effected in Traffic Court procedures.
