Pumping by Squeezing ARANGE of flow inducers now available from The WatsonMarlow Air Pump Co. Ltd. can pump or meter at rates of up to 2,000 gal. per hour. There are no glands or valves. the equipment making use of plain elastic tubes through which fluid is forced by means of three rotating rollers. A wide range of tube sizes is offered, each bore providing a different flow rate without modifications and such things as acids, alkalis, solvents, creams, oils and gases can be pumped.

The absence of a gland means that leakage and aeration are eliminated and since there is no non-return valve or mechanism of any kind in the path of the fluid nothing can stick or corrode. The units are not affected by dirt, they will act as oil-free air compressors and they are self-priming even when dry and, in fact, can be run dry. Makers: The Watson-Marlow Air Pump Co. Ltd., Marlow, Bucks.

Supported by Foam A RANGE of commercial-vehicle mirrors introduced recently by Desmo Ltd, have heads made of polypropylene (a rigid plastics material) and the space between the mirror glass and the case is filled with a plastics foam.

The foam packing strengthens the glass as it is supported over its entire surface and in the event of the glass becoming cracked or broken the mirror remains usable until replaced.

The foam also protects the silvering and tests are said to have shown that the silvering on the glass backed by foam lasts up to 20 times longer than on a conventional mirror when exposed to sulphur dioxide which is present in diesel-engine fumes.

The mirror range consists of three models, the No. 400 (9-75-in. arm), the No. 401 (ball fitting) and the No. 402 (13-5-in. arm). Size of the mirror head is 9-25 in. by 5.875 in., the longer sides are curved and the glass is 0.25 in. smaller than the case all round. Mirror heads are available separately and additional models are in the course of development.
