Before dealing with repairs or renewals in a hydraulic braking System, he writes, remove the filler cap from the fluid reservoir, which is vented, and substitute with a blank filler cap. This prevents the brake fluid from escaping during the repairs, and at the same time reduces bleeding to a minimum. The cost of the filler cap is negligible; all that is required is to seal the vent hole.
Comments Handyman: This is a good idea when a single item, such as flex pipe or wheel cylinder is to be replaced. For the full brake overhaul, however, a complete drain-out is advised.
