Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FIVE coach firms fought for two days at a sitting of the East Midlands Traffic Commissioners in Nottingham last week for permission to start new express summer services, or to improve existing ones, from the East Midlands to the Thanet area. The hearing was then adjourned until February 19.

The only application upon which a decision was made was that of Thomas Motor Tours Ltd., of North Muskham (Notts) to operate a service between Newark and Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs throughout the summer. There were no objectors and the application was granted.

Barton Transport Ltd., of Chilwell (Notts) applied for a licence to operate between Stapleford (Notts) and Ramsgate and Margate. Objectors were the East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd., United Counties Omnibus Co. Ltd., Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd., and V. and M. Coaches Ltd.

The United Counties and F_ast Kent companies applied to operate a joint service between Nottingham and Hastings or Eastbourne. It was opposed by Barton and Provincial Garage (Leicester) Ltd. Another United Counties application—to operate between Northampton and Ramsgate—was opposed by Barton.

The other application was made by Provincial for a service between Leicester and Ramsgate and was opposed by East Kent, United Counties and V. and M.
