Transport Association last week met the Geddes Committee to submit oral evidence. The delegation was led by Mr. K. C. Turner, president of the Association and included Mr. S. J. Lamborn, deputy president; Mr. J. W. Barnard, national hon. treasurer; and Mr. H. R. Featherstone, national secretary.
The purpose of the visit was to elaborate the Association's written evidence and to answer questions put by the Committee. The delegation urged strongly the need for the manufacturer and trader to retain the freedom to transport his goods by whatever means were most suitable, including his own C-licensed vehicles. As users of all means of transport, including rail and professional road haulage, they were concerned only with efficient transport, Mr. Turner said there was much wrong thinking about the growth of C-licensed vehicles, and added: "We have got to face the fact that this trend, which is happening all over Europe, is inevitable because of the tremendous advantages of efficiency which are inherent in many types of C-licence operation."
