AWe know of two sources for the information which you require. The Factories Act 1961 specifies minimum dimensions for manholes, primarily in the interests of safety, and a report published recently by H.M. Stationery Office Manhole Access into Enclosed Plant. price 171p, contains information on manhole sizes to accommodate deliveries from large tankers and container vehicles. The report also gives details of tests on a variety of manhole types conducted under simulated emergency conditions by the Fire Services Technical College.
