Victor A. Rice has been appointed director of product planning and market development of the Perkins Engines Group. Mr Rice, who joined Perkins in 1970 as comptroller, North European
V. A. Rice operations and was appointed finance director of the Group in April of this year, succeeds J. Winstanley who leaves Perkins to take up a board appointment with the Associated Engineering Group. Before joining Perkins, Mr Rice held finance appointments in a number of companies including the Cummins Engine Co Ltd. Ford Motor Co. Ltd and Chrysler United Kingdom Ltd.
Stanley Smith, for the past 21 months assistant general manager and before that for 15 years traffic manager of Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd, retires today (Friday). Mr Smith joined Potteries Motor Traction Co Ltd in 1931 and during the Second World War, as traffic manager, organized services carrying thousands of war workers. When he joined M and D he was engaged in the reorganization of services in Medway towns owing to the integration of Chatham Traction Co with M and D.
Brian Godfrey Noton, who started his career with the NBC senior management training scheme, and is Wilts and Dorset Motor Services' assistant operating superintendent at Salisbury, joins Bristol Omnibus in the New Year as district traffic superintendent at Weston-super-Mare. He succeeds the late Mr E. R. Oatley.
John W. Ray, a director for the past six months of Chloride Automotive Batteries Ltd, has been appointed general manager.
D. W. Morison, Hants and Dorset Motor Services Ltd managing director and general manager, is retiring. Mr Morison joined the National Omnibus Group 43 years ago and gained further experience with LGCS and LPTB from 1932 to 1936. He then became assistant traffic manager with Hants and Dorset and was appointed to his present post in 1966.
Richard Watson, 31, National Carriers Ltd assistant depot manager at Bradford since 1969. is taking over as depot manager at Halifax. Another change in the West Riding occurs at Bradford where Derek Sloan, 43, becomes the new manager. Mr Sloan has been depot manager at York since 1969.
F. H. Austin, 51, who joined London Transport in 1945 from the Canadian Army, and since 1967 has been an area traffic manager in the Central area bus division, has been appointed divisional garage manager.
George Iredale has been appointed to the board of David Brown Gear Industries Ltd. Before his appointment to the board he was general manufacturing manager, gear division.
Brian Blowers, 37, Mann Egerton and Co Ltd, has been appointed regional director (region 4) located at Derby and responsible for the company's branches at Derby, Leicester and Littleover as from the New Year. He is at present general manager of the company's operations at Cheltenham. Mr Blowers was previously managing director at Weybridge Automobiles and head of Weybridge Ltd. R. D. Wardle, 33, becomes general manager of the branch in Broadway, Peterborough, to replace J. S. Hurry who is leaving.
Ian D. Todman, for six years sales manager of K. J. Motors Ltd, the Bromley. Kent, based Bedford main dealer, becomes general manager on January 1, while John A. Giblin,
who joined the .company as service manager when the K. J. Group acquired Davis and Hill (Motors) Ltd in 1969, becomes assistant gm. At K. J. Motors (Orpington) Ltd, Harold E. W. Dagnall, a director, will have day to day responsibility as general manager; Bernard K. Tyler will be assistant gm, and will be responsible for service and parts development. Ron F. Hodge, who has been in the cv field for more than 40 years and joined the Group in 1968, has been made responsible for Group commercial vehicle development.
Joe Goodwin, for many years managing director of W. Briggs and Co Ltd, tyre distributor, and more recently director of National Tyre Service Ltd, is retiring today (Dec 31) after 40 years' service to the tyre industry. Mr Goodwin is vice-president of the Bureau International Permanent des Associations de Vendeurs et Rechappeurs de Pneurnatiques.
