A SUGGESTION that the Bath PA Tramways Motor Co., Ltd., should redesign a single-deck bus to avoid the risk of the driver's view being blotted out by passengers, was made last week by Mr. W. H. M. Richards, chairman of Bath city magistrates.
They fined a2bus driver £2 for driving without due care and attention. It was stated that he had collided with a stationary van because passengers who had crowded to the front while waiting to alight had obstructed his view to the near side.
Mr. D. T. Hicks, for the driver and company, said that A. the Bath concern were well aware of the problem. The vehicle was of a new type 6 in. wider and .2 ft. 6 in. longer than the former model. The .driver was not segregated from the passengerS. . The company were to display notices asking passengers not to go -to. the front of the vehicle When it waS about to' stop.
Mr. Richards did notthink the notices wonad have the desiredeffect. "Perhaps the company my think of some method of redesigning -the bus," he added.
