Although warehousing is generally acknowledged to be more lucrative than haulage, not everyone in the business has it that easy.
According to a recent survey by industry analyst Plimsoll Publlshing, almost half of the UK's top 1,000 warehousing firms are struggling to break even.
Across almost 50% of those surveyed, average profit margins in the last f inancial year were just 1.4%, with 25% reporting a loss. For 28% of these companies it was their second year Fr the red.
On the other hand, just over half of the firms surveyed made an average profit of 7.4% in the last financial year —and some of these firms were in their fourth consecutive year of profit growth.
