• ADDITIONS to the Bridgestone Corporation tyre proving ground — fully operational this month — in Japan, make it one of the most extensive testing facilities in the tyre industry, says the company.
The expanded ground cover 770,000ma and include a 2.3km endurance circuit, and a 3.91un high-speed course, as well as an area for high-speed tests.
All data is forwarded to Bridgestone UK and other subsidiaries via on-line computer. Bridgestone Corporation, with hq in Tokyo, the third largest tyre manufacturer in the world, is the only one with technical centres and proving grounds in USA, Europe and Asia.
The Japanese ground, at Kuroiso-shi, Tochigi-ken, includes a test road with a section with simulated cracks; section for noise tests, joined road surfaces (US Freeway); raingroove (US Freeway); Belgian road (European pebbled road); and bitumen road (Australiantype road).
