17-tonne range will be launched in the middle of next year. The existing 1617 model will be replaced by a 1717 model, although CM understands that there will be a higher-powered model possibly called the 1719, with which to attack the fastwowing over 140kW (188hp) end of the twowheeler market.
Although Daimler Benz says the new vehicles may not be shown at the Frankfurt show this September, Mercedes will be displaying the 243kW (326hp) 1733 Powerliner that will be coming to the UK by the end of the year. In keeping with the high-volume theme of the stand, the truck on show will be able to couple to a 13.5m semi-trailer within an overall length of 15.5m. This combination is achieved with the use of the standard cab, due to the short length of the new vee-six engine.
In future the vehicle will be able to use the "L" longdistance cab.
