Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Polyurethane pads maniacLured by London Arad Plastics (LAP) are used in the composite leaf springs developed by GKN and used in Leyland DAF's Sherpa 200 commercial van and the latest Iveco Daily 3.5. Their compression set, acoustic properties and abrasion resistance help to ensure a quiet, hard-wearing and trouble-free suspension.

Polyurethane pads from LAP help to damp GKN's composite leaf spring.

GKN's composite springs are made from glass fibres embedded in a special epoxy resin. The pads moulded fit on each side of the spring, around the central locating pin. Their function is to provide a suitable clamping interface and add to the noise-damping characteristics of the spring.

Composite springs offer a number of advantages, not least of which is their excellent strength to weight ratio, says LAP, and its polyurethane pads play a part in reducing interior noise by as much as 2dB
