This was part of the 'Spies Hecker Distributor Challenge', organised by Ault & Wiborg Paints, which included a Jim Russell Racing Drivers School Track Day followed by a conference.
Robin Jackson was made "Driver of the Day" by the instructors who supervised each of the sessions — Formula Ford single-seaters, Astra 16V
saloons, and go-karts. He was presented with the winner's garland and trophy by John Kirkpatrick, managing director of the Jim Russell organisation.
Jackson joined SSS towards the end of 1988 following a period with Bancrofts in the Midlands and has a wealth of experience in the vehicle refinishing field. After his win managing director and competitor Frank Donlon remarked: "If he moves half as fast off the track as he did on it then our sales are about to hit new heights." • Geoffrey V R Watson managing director, BASF Coatings + Inks, has been elected president of the Paintmakers Association.
